![]() This contemporary play introduces us to a family of four trying to cope with the challenges of maintaining their farm in rural Minnesota. Their everyday experience is continually threatened as the pressures of their situation bind. But, they persevere. The Olsons will give all families hope as they face adversity and uncertainty with humor, warmth, tenacity and trust in one another. Deb loves Seventeen, wears too much make-up (or so her mom thinks), but wants to live on the farm forever. Scott's a basketball star (all the girls think he's sooooo cute). Mom and Dan are fighting hard to hang onto the land that has been in the family for generations. ![]() MELODY DAWKINS “Penny” Cast in the role of “Penny” is Melody Dawkins; a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Sandhills Regional Medical Center. Melody is the wife of Jody Dawkins and mother to Jessica and Grae Hawks. Melody has both acted on the RCT stage in past productions of “Send Me No Flowers”, “Harvey”, and “Dearly Departed” as well as controlling the lights for several other productions. All of this as well as enjoying carpentry, discipleship studies and the music of Jim Brickman and Maroon 5. KYMBERLY SIMMONS “Deb” Portraying the role of “Deb” is Kymberly Simmons in her first RCT production. An 8th grader at Rockingham Junior High, Kimberly is the daughter of Jerry Simmons and Ellen Mabe, plus, the stepdaughter of Bobby Mabe. In addition to basketball and dancing, Kymberly enjoys the music of Carrie Underwood. LANCE BARBER “Mike” In his first RCT production is Lance Barber in the role of “Mike”. Lance is the department chairmen of Information Systems at RCC. Along with his 2 ½ year involvement with RCC, Lance enjoys an active life canoeing, hiking, remodeling houses and playing the guitar plus the sounds of the Beatles, David Bowie and the Frank Zappa. AARON BURGESS “Scott” Son to Bobby and Jacque, Aaron Burgess will be portraying “Scott”. Last on stage at RCT in “A Christmas Carol”, Aaron is a 9th grader at Rockingham Junior High and enjoys singing, acting, and dancing along with the music of Alan Jackson and Bryan White. BRITTNIE LOVIN “Julie” Hamlet Junior High 9th grader Brittnie Lovin is portraying “Julie” in her 1st RCT production. Brittnie is the daughter of Rodney and Judy Lovin and sister to Courtnie. Brittnie enjoys cheerleading, singing, and shagging and was a part of the traveling production “Beauty Lou and the Country Beast” at the Cole Center last year. GLENN SUMPTER “Johnny” The role of “Johnny” in “Amber Waves” will be the latest in a plethora of RCT productions Glenn Sumpter has been involved in, spanning nearly three decades. A classical Jazz and Dizzie Gillespie enthusiast, Sumpter is retired from the Richmond County Daily Journal where he was the editor for 26 years. Although retired, Sumpter remains busy as an RCC Board of Trustees member and is involved in restoring the Opera House in Hamlet, NC. Sumpter is the husband of Robbyn, father to Deirdre, Elisa, and Leslie plus the grandfather of Ryan, Dylan, Lindsay and Katelyn. Click on an image below for a larger view.
